A toothpick is the oldest known method for dental cleaning and predates the arrival of early modern humans. In the US wooden toothpicks are made from birch wood that is cut into thin sheets and chopped and milled into individual toothpicks.
As a boy I liked making things out of wood whether it was whistles, bows and arrows,
plaques or forts in the woods. As an adult those skills were refined and used to
extend and finish the house for a growing family while working as an engineer. Through the
years a love for making things out of wood has stayed with me.
In 2008 I completed a two year Mastery Program through the Northwest Woodworking Studio in Portland, Orgeon. This study was the seed for my journey to explore and apply the design approaches, materials, construction techniques and finishing methods used to craft truly fine furniture. As a craftsman, I enjoy the creativity in designing and building furniture that emphasizes the natural beauty of wood while using age old techniques that will stand the test of time.
We need trees to supply the wood and some grow so big, others grow very old, and many have an incredible beauty hidden inside a package of bark and leaves. I stand in awe of the One who made trees and all things - John 1:3.
